Anne Kirkpatrick is completely at home performing on a country music stage. Little wonder when you stop to consider that her parents just happen to be two of the most talented and respected country music performers ever to pull on a pair of cowboy boots and hit the stage strumming twangy guitars.
Anne was born into the Sydney suburb of Granville on July 4, 1952 and became the first born child of Slim Dusty and Joy McKean who were even then well established stars in the Australian country music scene.
Hitting the tour circuit with her parents from the tender age of two Anne was given the incredible opportunity to observe and learn first hand about all the joys and the pitfalls involved in living a life on the showbiz stage.
Conventional education was treated as seriously, but the attraction of performing in front of an audience won hands down over any alternative career choices. In no time flat she'd jumped head first into a life of touring and recording, picked herself up a husband along the way and even managed to have a couple of children in her spare time (she'll laugh when she reads this...!)
Seriously though, it's been quite a balancing act dealing with the pressure of measuring up (in public perception) to the legendary status of her superstar parents and her own desire to be a regular wife and mum who just happens to be a professional country singer into the bargain. But she's coped pretty darn well and produced some exceptionally outstanding recordings along the way. Definitely quite an achievement in anyone's book.
Why not check out the discography on this site to see just how extensive and varied her body of recorded work really is. Anne is not your average 'dyed in the wool' country singer. She's covered everything from "Teddy Bears Picnic" for the kiddies to "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise" for fans of the musical theatre (and yes! Anne Kirkpatrick can sing showtunes with grit! Definitely an avenue begging to be explored further ...hint hint Anne!).
For those who are already fans of Anne Kirkpatrick you'll be be pleased to see that she has finally received this well deserved web site tribute. The woman is a fantastic talent, a good sport and always a delight to meet. If you have not yet had the pleasure of seeing, hearing or meeting this performer do something about it soon. It could very well change your life forever. It changed mine…
